“I wrote a feature film. Sent it to competitions in the US. Got nowhere.”

I studied with Karel Segers. Re-wrote the script and sent it out again. It came top 10 of its category of 6000 scripts at the Austin Screenplay Comp.

I then sold that script to a Los Angeles based production company.
On the back of it, Sam Worthington’s production company Full Clip Productions, commissioned me to write a feature film script.”

“No Karel, no career. It’s really that simple.”

- Samuel Bartlett – Film Maker.

Venue address and directions
Venue address and directions

Level 2, Wentworth Park Grandstand
Wattle Street
Ultimo NSW 2007

The school is an easy walk from colourful cafes, shops and restaurants in Glebe or Pyrmont, Sydney’s iconic Fish Markets, Darling Harbour and Broadway Shopping Centre.

Bus – The 501 from Central Station stops near the Powerhouse Museum on Harris Street. It’s just a short walk from there to AIE’s entrance on Wattle Street. For other buses that stop along Broadway or on Glebe Point Road, visit 131500.com.au.

Train – AIE campus is a pleasant 20mins walk from either Central or Town Hall.

Lightrail – The campus is just 2-minutes from Wentworth Park Station.

Car – The driveway into the AIE is off Wattle street, in the one-way section between William Henry St and Bridge Rd. It’s in the one-way section, so you must be heading towards the Anzac bridge on approach. The driveway entrance is opposite Fig St, which is the best turn off to the Harbour Bridge and where Wattle St becomes two-way so if you pass that, you’ve gone too far.

Testimonial

“Karel distils the mountains of information on screenwriting into a clear, understandable & practical method to work with.”

Living over 4 hours drive south west of Sydney I was hesitant about signing up for the 12 month Story Series course with Karel as it was a big commitment both time-wise and financially. On top of this I had completed a screenwriting course with a well-respected film & theatre writer/director in Sydney the year before, but came out of that feeling confused, overwhelmed & discouraged.

Within hours of the first day in Karel’s course I knew I had made the right decision. Karel is a natural teacher who makes the class fun and relaxed, while maintaining a high standard as he challenges us to apply what we’re learning. Karel distils the mountains of information on screenwriting into a clear, understandable & practical method to work with.

So if you are passionate about writing your story for the screen but feel overwhelmed or confused, this is the course for you.
